The Department of Cardiology comprises physicians who are authorities in the various subspecialties that make up the field of cardiology, and in many important ways they have helped to define and shape the discipline. These men and women are experts in noninvasive, invasive, diagnostic and therapeutic methods of treating heart disease, and they pursue the latest technologies, treatments, and techniques. St. Francis cardiologists are not only outstanding clinicians; they are also leading researchers and innovators who have helped to shape modern cardiovascular medicine. They include some of the country’s top specialists in noninvasive imaging, electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, and cardiothoracic surgery.
Patients at St. Francis Hospital have access to the most advanced, innovative tools for diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. Our physicians are equipped with the latest technology and state-of-the-art diagnostic services, including cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology studies, cardiac MRI, and 64-slice CT scanning.
Interventional cardiologists offer a full range of leading-edge nonsurgical treatment options such as coronary artery stenting with state-of-the-art drug eluting stents, carotid artery stenting, radiofrequency ablation for arrhythmias, carotid, renal, and peripheral vascular angioplasty, balloon valvuloplasty for mitral and aortic heart valve disease, endovascular treatment of atherosclerosis, alcohol septal ablation for hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, and minimally invasive treatment for atrial septal defects. St. Francis is also the only hospital on Long Island participating in the Evalve clinical trial, which is exploring an interventional approach to heart valve repair.
The cardiothoracic surgeons at St. Francis Hospital are among the most experienced in the nation, performing more heart surgery than any other hospital in New York State with the best success rates.
