St. Francis Hospital Recognized as One of the Nation’s Best Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report

In addition to cardiac care, St. Francis is ranked among the top 50 hospitals in the nation for digestive disorders, geriatrics, and ear, nose and throat disorders

ROSLYN, N.Y. – St. Francis Hospital, The Heart Center has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best hospitals in the nation in the magazine’s prestigious annual ranking of medical institutions. In addition to being honored for its leadership in cardiac care, the Hospital was also ranked among the top 50 hospitals in the nation for digestive disorders, geriatrics, and ear, nose and throat disorders.

“This honor confirms our position as a leading heart center and highlights our expanding strengths in non-cardiac care,” said Alan D. Guerci, M.D., President and CEO of St. Francis Hospital.

According to U.S. News, its annual assessment is intended “to help patients find the best hospital when the need is great,” understanding that “when confronted with a difficult or complex condition, selecting a hospital with a solid track record could be nothing less than lifesaving.” The magazine’s stated goal is “to identify facilities that excel at treating a variety of demanding illnesses and procedures within a specialty, not just a few.”

Of over 5,400 hospitals that were surveyed, St. Francis Hospital was one of only 173 medical centers to be honored. The Hospital’s top national ranking in four specialties was more than all other hospitals on Long Island combined. The ranking in heart care places St. Francis Hospital among the top four medical centers in New York State. The recognition in geriatrics is especially noteworthy because of the low mortality rates for elderly patients across all specialty services, including vascular, urological, orthopedic, and general surgery.

“This accomplishment is the result of the outstanding performance of our physicians, nurses, and staff, and their extraordinary commitment to high quality patient care,” said Akram Boutros, M.D., FACHE, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer. “We offer our congratulations and thanks to the entire St. Francis family, each of whom contributed to the achievement of this national recognition.”
