Welcome to the Cardiac Fitness Center of St. Francis Hospital, The Heart Center - the only hospital-based program of its kind on Long Island.


The center is located on the park-like grounds of The DeMatteis Center for Cardiac Research and Education in Greenvale.


Located just off Northern Boulevard, its serene setting offers plenty of convenient and accessible parking.


Our popular fitness center enjoys more than 60,000 visits a year and recently celebrated its 30th anniversary.


Visitors are greeted by our friendly staff to make sure every exercise session feels like a welcome visit.


All of our cardiac fitness programs are medically supervised by a doctor, registered nurses and other healthcare professionals, who are always on staff.


Our award-winning center is equipped with state-of-the-art exercise equipment.


The workout circuit includes bicycles, treadmills, weight lifting stations and an indoor walking track.


All patients are prescreened for an appropriate fitness plan to ensure all of their cardiac needs are met.


Everyone is continually monitored for their progress by our highly dedicated staff.

St. Francis Hospital Appoints Anthony J. Celifarco, M.D., Chief of Gastroenterology

Anthony J. Celifarco, M.D., F.A.C.P, F.A.C.G., A.G.A.F., has been named Chief of Gastroenterology at St. Francis Hospital, The Heart Center. Dr. Celifarco has been affiliated with Gastrointestinal Associates of Long Island for almost 2 decades and is a member of several hospital committees at St. Francis, including the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff, Nutrition Committee and the Infection Control Committee.

“Dr. Celifarco brings considerable expertise to our division of Gastroenterology,” said Jack Soterakis, M.D., VP of Medical Affairs. “St. Francis Hospital was recently cited by U.S. News & World Report for being one of the top hospitals in the nation for treating digestive disorders, and Dr. Celifarco’s appointment will enhance this standard of excellence.”

“I am honored to lead this division at such an exciting time in our hospital’s history,” said Dr. Celifarco. “Although well known for its cardiac care, it is the support from the many medical subspecialties that is vital to the success of our institution and the division of gastroenterology has always been at the forefront of diagnosis and treatment.”

Dr. Celifarco received a B.S. from St. John’s University and his medical degree from the Universidad del Noreste School of Medicine in Tampico, Mexico. He completed an Internal Medicine Internship at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine at City Hospital Center of Elmhurst and an internal Medicine Residency and Fellowship at Winthrop University Hospital.

The author of numerous articles on gastroenterological disorders, he is also a member of many professional societies, including being a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, American College of Gastroenterology and the American Gasroenterological Association.

Dr. Celifarco lives in Manhasset with his wife Maria Elena. They have a son, Anthony, and a daughter, Ariana. He also active in his community and coaches girls’ soccer for the Manhasset Soccer Club.
