Jack Soterakis, M.D., Named Vice President of Medical Affairs at St. Francis Hospital, The Heart Center®

ROSLYN, N.Y. – St. Francis Hospital, The Heart Center® has appointed Jack Soterakis, M.D., FACP, FACG, Vice President of Medical Affairs. Dr. Soterakis, one of Long Island’s leading gastroenterologists, has been affiliated with the Hospital for more than 30 years. Most recently he served as its Director of Medicine.

“Dr. Soterakis brings a wealth of experience as both a physician and an administrator to this key position,” said Alan D. Guerci, M.D., President and CEO. “I am confident he will keep St. Francis at the forefront of patient care.”

Dr. Soterakis began his career at St. Francis in 1976 as an Assistant Attending Physician and quickly rose through the ranks to become an Attending Physician and Assistant Director of Medicine. Highlights of his administrative career include being a member of the Hospital’s Medical Executive Committee, of which he eventually served as President. He established the St. Francis Physician Organization (P.O.) to address managed care issues and was its first President. He also founded and chairs the Institutional Review Board (IRB) to oversee protocol for research volunteers.

A former Assistant Professor of Medicine at SUNY Stony Brook and Research Fellow in Medicine at the State University of Maryland and Tufts University School of Medicine, Dr. Soterakis eventually established a successful full-time practice in gastroenterology, leading it for 35 years. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and Diplomate of the Subspecialty Board of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Soterakis earned his bachelor’s degree at New York University and his medical degree from the University of Bologna in Bologna, Italy. He completed his medical residency at the Queens Hospital Center in Jamaica, New York, where he was Chief Medical Resident of its CMC Service.

In addition, Dr. Soterakis has authored numerous articles in medical journals on gastroenterology as well as liver disease, and has authored chapters on liver disease in several textbooks. He has also served as President of the Long Island Gastroenterological Association.

Dr. Soterakis is a member of the Hellenic Medical Society and is Co-Chairman of the capital campaign of the Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church in Roslyn

Heights to build a new church in Port Washington. He resides with his wife Ethel in Manhasset. They have two children, a daughter, Evelyn Vicki Zervos, and a son, George.
