ROSLYN, N.Y., January 11, 2007 – Akram Boutros, M.D., FACHE, has been named Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of St. Francis Hospital, The Heart Center®. Dr. Boutros, who is currently the Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Medical Officer at South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside, will be responsible for all day-to-day operations at the Hospital.

Dr. Boutros has been an integral part of South Nassau Communities Hospital’s (SNCH) success over the past decade. He joined SNCH in 1997 as Vice President for Medical Affairs and Medical Director and was appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer in 2003. In 2005, he added the role of Chief Operating Officer. His span of responsibilities has encompassed clinical programs, nursing, finance, human resources, support services, performance improvement, facilities, and marketing.

During his tenure, SNCH enjoyed over 45% increase in inpatient volumes, 165% increase in outpatient volumes, and 140% increase in revenues. He was instrumental in the development and execution of the largest facilities expansion in the hospital’s history, and the development of nationally recognized clinical programs in bariatric surgery, radiation oncology, gamma knife, and wound care.

Dr. Boutros earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry at St. John’s University, and his medical degree from SUNY Health Sciences Center at Brooklyn. He completed a residency program in internal medicine at Winthrop-University Hospital in New York. Dr. Boutros is a graduate of and guest lecturer at Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.

In addition, Dr. Boutros has authored numerous articles on a variety of health management subjects, such as trust, coaching, and innovation, and serves as an advisor and coach to several multinational executives.

Dr. Boutros was recently named a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and was elected to serve as a delegate to the American Hospital Association Regional Policy Board 2, which represents New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He also serves on the board of directors of Helen Keller Services for the Blind and the Long Island Chapter of the American Heart Association. He is a firm advocate of organ donations.

Dr. Boutros resides with his wife Suzanne and three daughters, Jasmine, Shannon and Tess, in the City of Glen Cove on Long Island.
