St. Francis Hospital Appoints Rita A. Jermyn, M.D., as New Director of Heart Failure

ROSLYN, NY, January 11, 2017 – Rita A. Jermyn, M.D., a noted expert in heart failure, has been named Director of the Center for Advanced Cardiac Therapeutics at St. Francis Hospital, The Heart Center®. Dr. Jermyn was previously Director of Heart Failure for Northwell Health at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Hofstra-NS-LIJ School of Medicine.

Dr. Jermyn has considerable clinical experience as a national leader in CardioMEMS, a tiny implantable device that keeps tabs on heart failure patients around the clock from the comfort of their own homes. She will also be the Medical Director of the Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) Program at St. Francis, which provides heart pumps for patients with advanced heart failure.

Dr. Jermyn earned her medical degree from Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, N.Y. in 2007. She then completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas in 2010. Following that, she completed a Cardiology Fellowship and Chief Cardiology Fellowship at Stony Brook University Medical Center in Stony Brook, N.Y. in 2013. She then completed an Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center in 2014.

A recipient of numerous honors and awards in biostatistics and research, Dr. Jermyn is Board Certified in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant. She has participated in regional, national, and international teaching presentations about managing and monitoring heart failure. She is a member of professional societies including the Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA), the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT), and the American Heart Association (AHA).
