St. Francis Is Rated Best Hospital on Long Island for Patient Satisfaction
Roslyn Hospital Ranks Tops Both Locally and Nationally in New Federal Survey on Quality of Patients’ Stays
Roslyn, NY- A federal consumer survey shows that St. Francis Hospital, The Heart Center rates best on Long Island and substantially above its state and national counterparts in what the government calls “patient experience.” The findings are the result of a new initiative by the federal Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to post consumer survey information on its Hospital Compare website.
The survey, designed to capture patients’ experience in a hospital, uses 10 different measures to rate a person’s stay. Questions range from whether nurses or doctors communicate well to whether the patient would definitely recommend the hospital to family and friends.
St. Francis, which is the only specialty designated cardiac center in the New York State, had the highest scores on the Island in seven categories and was above the state average in nine measures. It also scored significantly higher for patient satisfaction than many nationally known cardiac centers.
“Our mission is to make every patient’s stay as comfortable as possible and to ensure that our patients receive the best care in the most capable hands in a compassionate environment,” said Alan D. Guerci, M.D., President and CEO.
“We attribute these high scores to the Hospital’s adherence to its founding mission, patient-centered teamwork and a high staff-to-patient ratio,” said Akram Boutros, EVP and Chief Administrative Officer.
The survey was voluntary this year, so it was up to each hospital to release the government findings. According to the Medicare agency, more than half of the 4,486 hospitals nationwide reported their patient satisfaction scores. Of the 23 hospitals on Long Island, 18 released the results.
The Hospital Compare website already posts hospital-specific information on quality of care, but now consumers can have access to patient satisfaction ratings as well. For more information, you can log on to www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov to see how your local hospitals rate.
